T.Rex's Holiday Surprise

What do dinosaurs have to do with the holidays? Well, for starters children love them both. Dinosaurs are overpowering, out of control and often green with touches of red...just like the holidays. So don’t be surprised to find a Big Bad Baby T. rex in a Santa hat, and a Mama Maiasaura in a Christmas apron inviting everyone over to the nest for some berry pie and mistletoe.

We all know that Christmas isn’t the only midwinter holiday. People all around the world celebrate with lights and ceremonies to warm their souls through the cold winter months. Whatever holiday the peoples of the world have in midwinter they all involve three essential elements: family, food and fun.

In Egypt and the rest of the Moslem world there’s Ramadan which ends with a Lantern Festival. Sarah the Saharan Suchomimus represents this holiday in our holiday offering. Leboha Lesothosaurus comes from Africa. African Americans invented Kwanza as a tribute to their agrarian ancestors. It stands as the only non religious winter holiday in our show. Shao Shao the Microraptor comes from the Liainong Province of China. Chinese New Year also ends with a lantern festival.

Crash Boom Bam Sam the Triceratops demonstrates how the Maccabees overcame their Greek overlords and we bring on the menorah which stands for the miracle of Hannukah. And finally we teach the T. rex baby Big Bad Baby Rex about the spirit of the season which involves sharing of oneself and giving thanks for one’s blessings. The surprise ending is really nothing more or less than the spirit of good will that we hope will extend from the holidays to the entire new year.

As we say in the song:

There is Christmas. There’s Hanukkah. There’s Ramadan.
There’s Kwanza, El Navidad and on and on and on.
In China they have Chinese New Year with the Lantern Festival.
And we know the best of all is...all together

We cook, we eat, we count our blessings one by one.
We light the night with candles and before we’re done.
We hug each other tight spreading love around.
We sing our songs of hope all around the town. from “It’s the Holidays!
